*่ ive been working as a nurse for almost 5 years now…4 years 7 months 5 days to be exact… Graduated march 2007, took the boards june 2007, worked at a call center june-august 2007, passed and became RN and resigned from call center industry august 2007. Before i started working at the hospital im affiliated now, i was then a clinical instructor in a hospital for various schools/colleges/universities in a matter of 3 months. Clinical instructors, CI as we in the nursing profession call it, supervise, guide, teach, and prepare future rn’s in the nursing world. There’s this one group of students from one of the schools i’ve handled became very close to me. Let’s just say, they are the lowest of their batch. I tried my hardest to teach them what i know. I focused on my favorite subject, pediatric medical surgical nursing. I didnt i gave this one student an impact from what i was able to teach them. Until the other day, he sent me this message via facebook. He graduated 2 years ago. Took the boards. But he wasnt fortunate enough to pass it. He told me ‘mam im not an rn but i passed the section in the boards where the tetralogy of fallot(congenital heart disease), the one you taught us, was in there.’ im so touched by this simple message from him. I was just 21 years old then when i started teaching for future rn’s aged 19-20 years old. Yes he wasnt given the opportunity to become a nurse today, but he is willing to give it another try.
